Household e-waste collection campaign at Sri Aman Bus Terminal this Aug 28
KUCHING: The state Department of Environment (DoE) and the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB), in collaboration with the Sri Aman District Council, will hold a household e-waste collection drive at the Sri Aman Bus Terminal this Aug 28. The programme, to run from 8am to 4.30pm on the day, serves to collect used and expired electrical and electronic equipment (e-waste) which are then separated to recover useful materials or valuable resources that can contribute to sustainable development and protect the environment. According to information provided by DoE Sarawak, ewaste that is not managed in an environment-friendly manner can cause serious health problems and pollution because e-waste contain several pollutants or heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, and beryllium. As such, DOE is calling upon the public to bring their household e-waste to the drive, where a licensed contractor will buy the goods at certain prices for the purpose of recycling and environmental sustainability.
